Yuk
This started out as a great idea that turned out terrible. It was the four fabrics for the 1/2 yard challenge. The colors just won't work. I think the orange and black both dominate. I've wasted way too much time on this and it is going, going, gone.
Hope you are all getting a weather break. It has been cold (for FL) here the last few days. It got up to 60 today and 75 predicted for tomorrow.

This and That

Besides quilts and most any old stuff, I love things made of wood. Recently I found this three inch high wooden rocker and doll. It appears to be made by each piece which is glued together. I love it. The doll, which I've had a while, is made from craft wood pieces. It stands on a wooden heart.

Yesterday I put my nose to the grindstone and got 10 items done from my paper/phone list. I hate doing this stuff and always put it off forever. so this was a major accomplishment. Lots of call backs and call somewhwere else and whatever. Then I discovered a zip bag of soup had leaked all over my refrigerator. Well, guess it needed cleaned out anyway. This morning I was all out of milk and made a quilt trip to the store. I just discovered the plastic gallon was leaking in the refrig. Hey, I cleaned it yesterday. Hope this isn't one of those "comes in threes" things. Oh, well just the little irritants of life.

For Christmas I got a battery operated Sudoku game. Neat. Suppose to be good to keep the mind working. Not sure what it says about my mind as I can only do the easy versions. But it is fun.

Only quilting done yesterday was some hand work on binding a quilt last night. Maybe today.

Old Quilt?

Yesterday my senior park here in Florida held its anual bazaar. Guess what I found? Of course it jumped into my arms and for $2 I took it home. It has 24 nine patches which were probably 12 inches each originally. The top and bottom are partcial blocks. It is not quilted but has a few spots that appear to have been tied at one time. It has been used and washed (so nice and soft) and some of the batting has sagged in one corner. No stains through. The back is solid red fabric that is brought around to the front for binding. It is machine pieced . I know there are a lot of reproduction fabrics out there but I'm thinking this fabric really has been around for a while. I considered cutting the top off and redoing the batting but probably will not get around to it.
I've really been feeling my body yell at me but think I have finally turned the corner. I will have to visit my Dr. when I get back to MI. It takes months to get into GI or rheumatologists here.

Under the Weather
Just to let you know, I'm here but not feeling great. My tummy is objecting to my arthritis meds. So now my joints are objecting to not having the meds but the tummy is still upset so.... Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

I played with the fabrics in the last post but the black and orange are both dominant. I thought the black would be background but .... I'm sure the major problem is trying to flip flop the fabrics the way my tummy is doing and not liking either one.

Half Yard Challenge
It has taken me forever to post this one picture. I sure wish they could get things working so I could post from picasa. The colors are about right except for the top one which is more of a cream color that matches some of the button colors.
I saw a Fons and Porter TV program about a half yard challenge. I have no idea if it was a rerun or not and unfortunately I didn't record it. You take five 1/2 yard cuts of fabric from different colors and shapes. Cut each of them into four 4" strips. Then cut one strip of each fabric into 4" squares, one into 1/2 square triangles and one into 1/4 square triangles. The forth strip is to cut into any of these as you need more of them. Use a design wall and play with the fabrics to make any design you wish.
I did not have a full 1/2 yard of the gray on the left so decided to use the other 5 fabrics. I thought the top cream fabric would make a great background but soon I did not like it at all. So I eliminated it and used what I had of the gray. I sprayed with sizing and ironed the fabrics so they were sturdy enough to be handled. I like sizing much better than spray starch as it leaves no residue. I had lots of fun playing and really love the black fabric. It was a great inspiration to get me going again. I'd love to show some pics but ...
Weather
Sorry to hear about the terrible storms so much of the country is having. Perfect cool nights and sunny days here in FL. Anyone want to visit me? You are most welcome.
What's Your Personality Type?
Following Finn's example, I checked my personality type. I'm not sure if this is me or what I wish I am. Anyway, on this day at least, it says I'm an Idealist. "You are creative with a great imagination, living in your own inner world. Open minded and accepting, you strive for harmony in your important relationships. It takes a long time for people to get to know you. You are hesitant to let people get close. But once you care for someone, you do everything you can to help them grow and develop. You would make an excellent writer, psychologist or artist."

Problems With Pics

I went back to the old blogger and still am unable to post pics from Picasa. Very frustrating! Also can only post one from my computer.
Oh well, this is a Honey Belle tangelo or orange. It is huge and so so good. They have a limited season and will be gone about the end of January. I'm loving the fresh stuff from the market now. Charlie strawberries, tomatoes, green beans and lots more. For supper yesterday I made a pizza with chicken, ranch dressing, mushrooms, onions, brocholi, tomatoes and cheese. Really good. I always bake the crust for 10 minutes before adding everything else.
I finally finished hand quilting the Autumn Walk quilt. It is not consistant but a good learning experience. Now to trim and bind.
I've been in a mood thinking of the past and future. I guess old ladies do this sometimes. Another year and another birthday probably brought it on. Just no enthusiasm for a new quilt project so yesterday I bought concrete stain to try to do my porch floor. This was recommended but I'm not sure now. If it looks terrible I can always put down another carpet.

Some Pics
I am now able to post pics from My Pictures but not from Pacasa. And only one pic at a time. Oh well, here is an alligator at the edge of our air boat. The pic is not cropped or otherwise altered. Any ideas what I need to do to get pics from Picasa?

Air Boat
Here's a pic of an airboat we took to see the Everglades. Hope it posts.
Not Yet

I'm still not able to post pics. I can get them from Picasa to the compose screen but they won't post. Funny because without the pics, it will post. I tried reading and the problem may be in my publishing settings. Now if I could just find that. Any ideas?

Not quilting yet. I am reading your blogs and Jennifer Chiarerini's An Elm Creek Quilts Sampler. It is the first three novels in one book. I have the first two finished already.

Hoping to get back into quilting soon.

I'm Back
While visiting me, my DGS moved me to the new blogger. Now I can't post pics. Oh, me. Any suggestions? But he did set up or teach me many other good things including how to save my blogger posts to my computer.

All my children and grandchildren got together for two days at Mexico Beach, Florida. I have three children and six grandchildren. They came from WI, MI, PA, MA (Massachusettes), AL, KS and FL. Three of the grandchildren are in elementary school and three are in college. This was the first time we had all been together in eight years. Very nice visit. Nice place. Nice weather. Good time had by all. Some of my family was here longer but now all have gone back to their busy lives.

I'm trying to get things back together here and hope to get back to some quilting soon.
