Single Irish Chain is a variation of Nine Patch pattern. The quilt is pieced of a variety of early 19th century wood block printed and early roller printed cottons. It is embroidered in cross stitch along one edge with the maker's name: 'Sarah E. Davis, March 1838." Signatures worked in cross stitch seldom are found on quitls after 1850. Sarah Davis moved with her family from New York to Oakland Country, Michigan in 1852."
