Stack and Whack Squares

I saw some square Stack and Whack blocks on Linda J's (Life With Quilts and a Little Old Lady in a Fur Coat) Sept. 9th post. Had to make some. So easy and so fun. Reminded me of working on my Hawaiian quilt. I have 36 blocks each 7 1/2 " square. In the pics, I grouped some of them together. Don't know how to put them together. Hummmm.

Aren't these fun! I have a pattern and have been dying to find the perfect fabric for them, but haven't dived in yet!

Your Bonnet Girls look wonderful Katie. I've seen the book but was scared off with so much applique. Maybe one day I will incorporate a Bonnet Girl into something else. I hadn't thought of using fur for hair. Thanks for the tip.
These stack and whack blocks look great. They can be used in any setting. I've made some blocks and am figuring out the setting.

Go look at my Mexican Star blocks. They are another version of the square SnW. But I cut mine into quarter square triangles because I wanted the diagonal line.

I love your 4-patches! Isn't this the most fun technique! What did your fabric look like before you cut it up? Was it Christmas fabric?

I'm always amazed by how each block looks conpletely different ! These are great and will be a stunning quilt when you decide on a setting !

Ah, but that is the beauty of them. These little babies can be used anywhere--even as the centers of other blocks and such like. Norma has hers done as the cover pattern calls for them--narrow frame of a contrast fabric and then something lighter between for sashing and the frame color for cornerstone.

Before the two of us were thinking about trying this she sent me off to a webshots album to see the many variations so you might try this site for some setting inspiration.

Well done, Katie! Fun playing with fabric, isn't it?
